Briefing

Nothing as exciting as starting a new job. New challenges, teaming up with new people, working in a new environment. Since you are already excited enough, it’s nice if the onboarding goes butter smooth. That’s exactly how Booking.com thought it should feel when they asked us and branding agency Bulletproof to come up with a surprising and inspiring onboarding video. A video that clearly makes out that Booking.com is a tech company where you are part of an international family of likeminded people, a group of people with the mission to make it easier for everyone to experience the world.

Approach

We used the overarching employer value proposition and its theme It’s more than a job, it’s a journey as our point of reference to create an unique onboarding video shot from the perspective of a new employee. Throughout the video the viewer experiences first hand how our new employee becomes acquainted with the world of Booking.com, from its culture to its people. We see it all through their eyes, the ups, the downs and the authentic moments. In the scenes we subtly incorporated the yellow journey line via objects and as an animation to symbolise the onboarding process of the new employee. We used playful transitions via smartphones and laptops to emphasise on the tech aspect, and jump between different locations where the new employee meets their colleagues as well as a taste of things to come. Both the full video and the teaser are enriched with elements taken from Booking.com’s visual identity, from the typical blue tint to the happy and positive yellow with which we highlighted objects and for use in titles. We end our onboarding video with our main character ready to walk into Booking.com HQ to start the new gig, well… not before taking a quick selfie of course. It’s crystal clear, this new employee feels right at home.
